I am a big fan of Peter Krantz and had no doubt that he would be an excellent Elwood P. Dowd. He was. Not only was he delightful as Elwood, he made Harvey seem so real you could practically see him.
Shaw did their usual excellent job with this play. Great cast, excellent scenry and great overall production. Who cares if it is a silly slight play? It was a very enjoyable evening at the theatre.
I agree that this was a lot of fun and Peter Krantz was excellent.
ReplyDeleteCathy's comments about his making Harvey real, reminds me of my only problem with the production. Although the play is funny, the cast mostly plays it pretty straight, which makes it work. However, I though Mary Haney was wildly over the top in the first half, and that jarred. She settled down in the second half, though.
Mary Haney has done some great work, but these days seems to have a tendency to slip into easy scenery-chewing without a strong hand controlling her.
Mr. Ziegler needs to get the whip out.
