Billy Twinkle - Requiem for A Golden Boy
Ronnie Burkett has done it again. This is the third of his plays that I have seen and I have loved them all. The plot in this one seemed superficial, but really was not. It was a reflection on a life and therefore not really exciting, as most lives are not. But it was funny and sad and in total a great perfomrance. the puppest are amazing, but the performance is Burkett. wow.

I am so annoyed that we missed Burkett's earlier shows in Toronto because they were "Just puppet shows" The three we have seen have been amazing.
ReplyDeleteIf James Brown wasn't already dead he would have to relinquish his title as "The Hardest Working Man in Show Business" to Ronnie Burkett. As it is, Burkett just inherits it.
However, it is not just the work - making all the great puppets and the performance, including puppets working puppets - the stories also sell the shows.
Burkett is very funny but there always seems a dark vein of anger/desperation that keeps you focussed on the show, even as you worry about the performer.
Perhaps it is sad that this show will be retired after this run, but, selfishly, I cannot wait for him to get on with developing the next one!
